To the pioneer students of ELHS/ELSS and to those who followed in their footsteps . . .

Greetings!

From your former principal E. H. Dixon

It has given me great pleasure to follow the careers of as many graduates of ELHS/ELSS as possible. It has amazed me to learn of the various roles you are playing in all walks of life and in many places throughout the world. It makes me think that the secondary school must have done something right, even as I recognize that you have achieved your status, through your own efforts and by applying, rather than wasting, the talents with which you were born.

Of course, I have not been able to keep pace with the thousands of students who spent their high school years at ELHS/ELSS, but from time to time, it gives me joy to cross paths with that of someone whom I remember well as a former student. For instance, to mention only a few, it was a thrill for me to watch Alan Thicke playing the lead role in the successful Broadway Show, Chicago. It was delightful to spend a few hours reminiscing with former students at the home of Heather Banks Geres. It was a compliment to receive a visit from Drummond Peet and his charming wife, Carol. I am impressed with the work of Lane Adams (Kovacs) and Kelly Martell (Burke) in setting up this directory of former students and teachers. This should help to reconnect many who have lost touch over the years. Through these pages, and I trust, through personal contacts, as well, I look forward to catching up on the lives and careers of many other students who spent their high school years in Elliot Lake during the years when I was principal.

My retirement years have not been idle. I am presently serving as Treasurer of the Elliot Lake United Church. My wife and I formed a small Publishing Company, called Gillidix, the name composed of the first part of my last name and her maiden name (Gillespie). We have published three books and another, being a history of my years at the Secondary School is in the works. You can read about these books on our website, http://www.onlink.net/~cdixon/ or a web site has been created on this site. Click here to visit.
